Types of camera shot
Shot Sizes
Extreme long shot
Used for a shot of the whole scene. Often used for establishing the location of the scene.
Long shot
A shot where you can see the entire body of the character or characters. You can also see a lot of the scenery.
Medium long shot
You can see most of the character but you can also see their surroundings.
Most of the focus is on the characters and what they are doing but there is some of their surroundings visible.
Medium close up
Used to look specifically at just one character. This shot will show the head and shoulders of the character. It is sometimes used when the character is talking.
Close up
Most of the shot is just a characters face or a specific object. This is often used on an object when a character is about to pick it up or use it.
Extreme close up
Can only see a small part of a character of object. It is often used to see the characters eyes in detail or show the emotions of the character so the viewers know how the character is feeling.
