Maths week 1

  Prime numbers  A prime number is a whole number that can only be divided by itself and 1. Prime numbers become harder to calculate with the more digits they have. Eulers number e Euler's number, is an  important mathematical constant approximately equal to 2.71828 This is the limit of (1+1/n)n as n approaches infinity, an expression that arises in the study of compound interest. Square numbers A number multiplied by itself (e.g 4x4=16) A cubed number is a number multiplied by itself then itself again. (e.g 4x4x4 = 64) Square roots The opposite of square number.                       Types of camera shot Shot Sizes Extreme long shot Used for a shot of the whole scene. Often used for establishing the location of the scene. Long shot A shot where you can see the entire body of the character or characters. You can also see a lot of the scenery.  Medium long shot You can see most of the character but you can also see their surroundings. Medium shot Most of the focus is on the characters and what they are doing but there is some of their surroundings visible. Medium close up Used to look specifically at just one character. This shot will show the head and shoulders of the character. It is sometimes used when the character is talking. Close up Most of the shot is just a characters face or a specific object. This is often used on an object when a character is about to pick it up or use it. Extreme close up Can only see a small part of a character of object. It is often used to see the charact...

  Squash and stretch Squash and stretch means a character's mass should not change even when the character changes shape. This is used because it would not look right if a character gained mass when doing certain animations such as jumping/leaping. Anticipation Anticipation is when a character shows that they are about to do a certain action right before they actually do it. An example may be a character bends their knees before jumping. This is so when someone is viewing it, it will look more natural because they will know what the character is about to do. Staging Staging is when an action is staged to be made clear to the audiences eyes so that they will look exactly where they need to at the exact right moment. Straight ahead and pose to pose Straight ahead is drawing out a scene frame by frame, while pose to pose is creating key frames for the character then adding additional frames in-between to make the character look like its moving into the different key poses.   Rey Harryhausen Rey Harryhausen was the pioneer of stop motion animation making one of the earliest working forms of animation.  How Rey  began animating Ray Harryhausen first began creating stop frame animations after seeing King Kong in 1933. Ray used homemade models for his animation and learnt how to do photography himself as he did not know anyone to create the models or do the photography for him so he had to teach himself how to make the models and take the photos.
